Welcome to Mohawk College Summer Camp!
Thank you for registering your child(ren) in Mohawk College’s Summer Camp program. We have an amazing summer planned, filled with special guests, games, crafts, activities and so much more! We cannot wait for it to begin in just a few short months. Our camp staff is working hard to create a fun and exciting camp experience for all campers. Our goal is to provide an energetic and safe atmosphere in which our campers gain new skills and interests, meet new friends, and most importantly have fun! Smiles are guaranteed.
We have put together this package of IMPORTANT camp information, reminders, and contact information to help you and your child(ren) with the transition into camp. Please take the time to read all the materials.

Official tax receipts are provided during your online registration process and are available anytime in your online portal account under “Family”, then “Financial” .
Mohawk College Summer Camp is a NUT AWARE and ask that you do NOT pack any peanut or nut products in your child’s lunch.
Parents: Although we ban nuts from our programs, we cannot guarantee that the College environment is nut free.
Parking for drop off and pick up is in Parking Lot P8 only and is complimentary during drop off/pick up times.
On a daily basis, campers must be dropped off at the Drop Off Location prior to 9:00 am. Parents/Guardians must sign the campers in/out at the David Braley Athletic & Recreation Centre at Mohawk College.
Specific classroom locations for each camp will be given upon arrival. On the first day of camp, they will receive their t-shirt and a name tag for the week. Additional t-shirts can be purchased in advance online or throughout the week for $10.00.
Campers must be dropped off and picked up each day by a parent/guardian at the designated Drop Off/Pick Up Area. The parent/guardian must sign the camper in and out with the staff member on duty. Campers will only be allowed to leave with the person authorized to pick them up.
**Photo ID will be checked during sign out to ensure the safety of campers.**
The camp program runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Early drop off is available beginning at 8:00 am each day and late pickup runs until 4:30 pm. During this time, campers will be provided with a variety of games and activities. There is no extra charge for extended care. Important: If you arrive past the designated extended care times, you will be charged $5.00 for every 10 minutes past the time allowed. No exceptions.

It is important that campers arrive each day by 9:00 am. Programming begins promptly at 9:00 am. Please do not arrive late. Campers arriving late will be required to proceed to the camps designated location without assistance.
If your child is going to be absent from camp, please contact the camp office at 905-575-2062. Please note that there are no refunds for days missed for any reason.
Mohawk College Camp Staff are College and University students with past experience as camp counsellors, coaches or with other children’s programs. All staff require a vulnerable sector check and are trained in first aid and CPR.
On the first day of camp, all campers will be given an official camp t-shirt and name tag. Campers are required to wear their camp t-shirt and name tag each day. No exceptions.
Additional t-shirts can be purchased for $10.
All campers are required to bring a backpack with a hat, sunscreen, light jacket or sweater, bug repellent, snacks, lunch, water bottle, running shoes, a bathing suit and towel to camp with them each day.
Please do not send your child with open-toe sandals, heelys, or crocs.
Campers are asked to leave valuables at home as Mohawk College will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items while at camp. Please note that cell phones, toys, cameras, MP3 players, iPods, video games, trading cards, etc are not permitted at camp. Cell phones must be kept in backpacks as campers are not permitted to have cell phones on them at any time during camp.
Please label clothing/belongings. Items unclaimed by the end of the summer will be donated to The Eva Rothwell Centre.
- Money for lunches or snacks
- Nut products for lunches or snacks
- Valuables such as phones, cameras, MP3 players, iPods, game boys, trading cards, toys, Webkinz etc.
- Sandals, heels, crocs or inappropriate clothing
If your child must leave camp during the day, please notify the camp office in advance. Please specify which day and time they will be leaving, who they will be picked up by and when they will be returning to camp.
Lunch is scheduled at 12:00 pm each day unless otherwise communicated. In addition, campers have two scheduled snack breaks throughout the day. All food and beverages should be kept in plastic or metal containers. Please do not send glass of any kind. Two 15 minute snack breaks are scheduled throughout the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Please pack extra snacks as they are not provided. Please do not send money with your child. Vending machines and cafeterias are out of bounds.
Please note that our camp is NUT AWARE and ask that you do not pack any peanut or nut products with your children’s lunch. Camp staff check snacks and lunch each day and will remove anything not clearly labelled or that contains nuts.

Friday is Pizza Day – campers will receive 2 pieces of pizza and juice. Campers may wish to bring an additional snack in their lunch.
As many of our camp activities are held outdoors, parents are asked to ensure they apply sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher before arriving at camp. Please also pack sunscreen in your child’s backpack so they may reapply throughout the day.
Due to sunscreen allergies, Mohawk College Summer Camps will NOT provide sunscreen.
In case of inclement weather (i.e. rain, heat, poor air quality) some outdoor activities will be adjusted to ensure the safety and well being of all participants. For heat/humidity between 35°C-40°C, we will endeavour to provide frequent rest periods and fluid breaks during activities. Any heat/humidity temperatures over 40°C we will make an effort to limit physical activity and provide the appropriate amount of rest periods.
All campers are expected to participate in outdoor activities. To ensure the safety of every child campers must bring the following: suitable clothing for all types of weather, waterproof sunscreen (SPF 30+), insect repellent (optional), a hat, and water bottles are also necessary.
We no longer schedule travel by bus offsite trips. A weekly walking trip to Buchanan Park is offered for each camp and some camp activities may occur at this offsite location. The consent for these offsite activities was included in the registration form.
Sprinkle and Splash.
Water activities are planned and include visits to the off-site splash pad at Buchanan Park and other water related activities on Mohawk College property. These are not scheduled every day but your child should come prepared each day with a bathing suit, towel and any other additional gear required to make them comfortable. Please note that there are no trips to swimming pools.
Camp staff will be taking photos throughout the week for a slide show and crafts such as scrapbooking. For any reason, if you do not want your children’s picture taken for these purposes please advise the camp staff.
Photo consent for purposes of promotional materials was included on the registration form. Photos of children (without names) will only be used if consent was given.
Additionally – Mohawk College Summer Camp does not house no promotional photos on our website. Please follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram if you are interested in seeing live stories.
If your child requires any prescription medications (including Asthma Inhalers) or carries an Epi-Pen, please ensure this was identified on the Camper Medical Form on the camp registration site. All prescription medications must be turned in to a staff member at morning sign in.
Prescription medications must be in the original pharmacy bottle, labelled with the patient’s name and the physicians ordered dose on the bottle (e.g. pills in Ziploc bags are not acceptable).
Non-prescription/over-the-counter medication, including vitamins and herbal supplements, will not be permitted. Asthma Inhalers and Epi-Pens may be carried on the child. If you wish to discuss your children’s medications or medical conditions in advance, please contact the Camp Office at camp@mohawkcollege.ca.
If a camper becomes injured, camp staff will complete a Near Miss or Accident Report depending on the severity of the incident and they will administer first aid if needed. The Camp Staff, in conjunction with the Camp Coordinators, will make any decisions regarding further medical care. Please note that Mohawk College Health Services has a professionally staffed clinic on campus which is open from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. If the injury requires further medical attention, we will contact you directly.
A consent form was included on your registration form to allow the Camp Coordinators or designated appointee to authorize all procedures (including admission to the hospital and necessary treatment) in the event of an emergency if contact cannot be made with the parents/guardians or emergency contact.
The Mohawk College Camp is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, enriching and fun learning environment where our camp community, including all campers, families/caregivers, staff and volunteers are given equal opportunity to engage in a positive and welcoming experience. We aim to create a respectful camp community that is mindful of the rights, needs, and interests of all its members, creating an atmosphere that is inclusive, and physically and emotionally safe. With this commitment, the following Code of Conduct is expected of all members of our camp community at all times.
Respect yourself. All members will work together and contribute to the well-being (physical, emotional, mental, environmental, social, etc.) of others to create a positive camp community. Members are expected to take appropriate care of themselves (follow Health and Safety policies and procedures, practice self-care and self-advocacy and participate to the fullness of their capabilities and comfort levels).
Respect the Environment/Community. All community members shall treat Mohawk College property and any other owned, leased or visited property with care. Participate in creating a positive display of inclusion and respect of all persons in speech, action and behaviour, absent of violence, harassment, racism, intimidation, and discrimination of any kind regardless of and not limited to gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, age, ability etc.
Respect others. Participate in creating a positive display of inclusion and respect of all persons in speech, action and behaviour, absent of violence, harassment, racism, intimidation, and discrimination of any kind regardless of and not limited to gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, age, ability etc.
Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct may result in removal from Mohawk College Camp without a refund.
If a child does not follow the behaviour guidelines, the camp staff will take the following steps:
- Staff will redirect the child to more appropriate behaviour.
- The child will be reminded of the behaviour guidelines and program rules.
- If the behaviour persists, a parent will be notified of the problem by a Camp Coordinator.
- If a child’s behaviour at any time threatens the immediate safety of themselves, other campers, staff or guests, the parent will be notified and asked to pick up their child.
- Mohawk College Summer Camp reserves the right to ask a parent to pick their child up early, temporarily suspend the child from the camp program or expulsion from the program in extreme cases.
The following behaviours are not acceptable and may result in the immediate suspension of a child from the camp program:
- Endangering the health and safety of other campers, staff, volunteers or guests
- Stealing or damaging Mohawk College or personal property of other campers, staff, volunteers or guests
- Continual disruption of the camp program
- Refusing to follow the behavioural guidelines and program rules
- Using profanity, vulgarity, obscenity or acting in a lewd manner.
- Wear a camp shirt and name tag at all times
- Get permission to leave group i.e. washroom
- Younger campers must go with a staff member
- Older campers may go in pairs
- Respect property of others and the College
- Respect the personal space of others
- Treat others how you would like to be treated
- Stay within designated areas
- Follow instructions of Camp staff, College staff, special guests and off-site staff
- Participate in all camp activities
- Refrain from using inappropriate language or lewd behaviour
